Today was the first Friday of not having classes and boy did
it prove to be super beneficial. I was able to visit new places different from
the sightseeing I had already done the first day I arrived (Sunday). I saw
Parque del Retiro which is one of the largest parks in the city consisting of
art pieces, statues and gardens flowing throughout. We didn’t even explore
through the whole park in one visit partly because of the heat but also because
of the size. We primarily walked around and rowed boats in front of the famous
statue – one of the top tourist attractions Madrid has to offer.

The one thing
I did not like about this stop was that we were not allowed to drink our own
water when we sat down for some lunch in the outdoor restaurant. Everyone had
their own waters because of the heat so when it came time to eat, we put our
waters away and just ate the food. Occasionally some of us would take quick
sips, but I thought this rule was ridiculous.
Anywaysss, Emily slept over the night before, so I was happy to have
someone here to travel with me Friday morning. I am FINALLY getting the hang of
how the metro works. It’s pretty easy and a fascinating system. A few other places I saw today include the U.S.
Embassy, La Puerta de Alcala, Banco de EspaƱa, Palacio de Cibeles (Centro
Centro), Edificio Metropolis, and Gran Via City. Walking around Madrid
is the easiest task ever because all the attractions are so close to each
other. I really don’t believe that there is another city like Madrid in the
world. I guess you’ll have to just come see for yourself!!
