Metro Mayhem

Last night was the first night that we all got to go out on the town.  A night out in Spain is not supposed to begin till 10pm at the earliest. It was also my first time on the metro and boy was it quite the journey. My senora told me the best way to get to Sol and Gran Via (which is where we were all going) but everyone else wanted to take the metro line that they’ve taken before which is also my closest metro stop. However…going this way would require us to transfer lines (trains) which is why Gloria suggested to take Cautro Caminos instead of Guzman el Bueno. We get on the first train going in the wrong direction thanks to Jen. Meanwhile, I have no say in anything because I have never ridden it before and I told them the route Gloria told me to take. The metro stations are HUGE so it’s easy to get confused. I was shocked how clean they were. Not a piece of trash in site or any gum on the ground…  After speaking Spanish to each other in order to fit in with the locals, we ran into another problem.  We get off at the wrong stop, we walked up the wrong escalator so at this point are just walking (well more like running),  in circles. Soooo we have to retrace our steps even more so and go right back to where we started. Rita is fluent and from Puerto Rico so we had her to ask for good directions. But that didn't seem to work too well either. Thank goodness Kristina had her iPhone with the Metro app on it which was extremely beneficial. Once we got on the correct train we needed to still make that transfer! Low and behold, we ended up at Cuatro Caminos which is where we should have just gotten on the metro in the first place like Gloria and I said.
At least I got to learn the metro a little better this way! Plus it was a fun experience with Rita (the Puerto Rican), Kristina (the Pilipino) and Jen (the Caucasian). Pretty diverse group out and about in Spain. We definitely lived up to the stereotype that foreign Americans are not quiet.
