At 2:30 pm on Thursday afternoon, my oceanography class met
to depart towards Alicante, Spain. Alicante is a predominantly fishing town
located along the Mediterranean Sea. This Province is among one of the fastest-growing
cities in Spain. Another class went the weekend before I went and said they had
a blast, so I was pretty excited about this trip. The only non-exciting part was
the long 6 hour bumpy bus ride. Bus drivers are required to stop every 2 and a
half hours by law at a rest stop and wait for 45 minutes before they can get
back on the road and drive. The rest stop we took a break at was in the middle
of nowhere nor were there any people inside except for us. Around 8:30pm we finally arrived to La Mata, Alicante
and checked into our hotel called Cabo Cervera. The hotel was pretty nice. Each
room had a sitting area separate from the beds along with a big balcony
overlooking the clear pool and quiet ocean. In my opinion the bathrooms were
the best part aside from the balconies because it was brand new, had a lot of
light and big showers. The weird thing about the bathrooms was that they only
had half a door. This must be a European design because I have never seen
something like this. The water could easily escape and form a puddle on the
floor. The class had only one rule to follow: no balconing. This is an order from the U.S. Embassy that our teacher reinstated. Apparently students in the past have died from climbing between balconies. We didn’t do much when we got to the hotel. We had a buffet style dinner
at the hotel and then sat outside by the pool until it got too cold. Then it
was time to rest up for the next few busy days ahead of us.
Beautiful view and nice hotel pool!
